PGT Energy-Efficient Windows in Los Angeles: What to Know First

We install and service PGT energy-efficient windows across Los Angeles as an independent provider, with most replacements completed in one to three days depending on the opening count. A typical PGT dual-pane Low-E replacement in Los Angeles runs $850 to $1,400 per window installed, and you’ll have a written price in hand before any work begins. If you’re researching PGT options or chasing a draft, fogged glass, or a failed seal on an existing PGT unit, this page tells you what we find in the field and what it costs to fix. Call (509) 265-6387 to schedule a measured survey.

How PGT Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

PGT builds a solid window, but every product line has patterns. Here’s what we see in Los Angeles homes, series by series.

  • PGT WinGuard (impact-rated line): failed insulating glass seals. The laminated glass and heavy aluminum frame hold up, but the dual-seal spacer between panes eventually lets moisture in, especially on south- and west-facing elevations. You’ll see haze between the glass that won’t wipe off. We replace the insulated glass unit (IGU) rather than the whole frame, which keeps the impact rating intact and costs far less than a full swap.
  • PGT SpectraGuard and EnergyVue lines: Low-E coating degradation at the sightline. These lines use a soft-coat Low-E applied to the interior glass surface. Over years of direct Los Angeles sun, that coating can develop a hazy or streaked appearance near the frame edges where the glazing bead traps heat. The fix is a new IGU with current-generation Low-E that meets the original U-factor spec, not a coating patch, which doesn’t exist.
  • PGT 7700 and 770 Series (aluminum single-hung and slider): air infiltration at the meeting rail. The pile weatherstrip on these older aluminum frames compresses over time and leaves a gap you can feel on windy days in the canyons or along the coast. We replace the weatherstripping with a denser aftermarket pile and adjust the roller assemblies. It’s a repair, not a replacement, and it typically restores the original seal.
  • PGT 2200/2300 vinyl series: failed argon gas fills showing up as drafty glass in winter. These vinyl lines came standard with argon between panes. When the edge seal fails, the argon leaks out and the window loses a meaningful chunk of its insulating value, long before you see any visible fog. A thermal camera reading at the glass edge confirms it. We document the temperature differential in writing before we quote the IGU replacement.
  • PGT sliding glass doors (WinGuard and ClassicVue): worn rollers causing sash drag and seal gaps at the stile. A door that’s hard to slide gets forced, the frame flexes, and the weatherstrip at the stile stops meeting the frame. That gap is an energy leak disguised as a hardware problem. We re-set the door on new rollers and align the stile before we consider any glazing work.

Our PGT Energy-Efficient Windows Process

Our PGT Energy-Efficient Windows Process

Every PGT job at Sightline follows the same sequence, and you get documentation at each step.

  1. 1
Measured survey. We measure every rough opening with a laser and record the readings on a written survey you keep. That document becomes the basis for the quote. Haven Clause 1: the measurement and the price are the same document.
  2. 2
Diagnostics and scope. For existing PGT units, we check the glass condition, frame square, weatherstripping, and thermal performance with an infrared reading where the job calls for it. We tell you what needs fixing and what doesn’t.
  3. 3
Parts decision. For IGU replacements we source glass from PGT-approved local fabricators when the original warranty path is viable, and from quality aftermarket fabricators when the unit is out of warranty and price matters more than brand pedigree. We show you the difference in writing before we order.
  4. 4
Installation. Our crew sets the new unit or IGU, re-glazes, shims to spec, and seals the perimeter with backer rod and a low-VOC sealant. All techs are background-checked, uniformed, and identified by license number before they arrive.
  5. 5
Test and evidence. We check the window operation, run a smoke test at the weatherstrip when air sealing is part of the job, and photograph the finished opening. You get a documented photo record. That’s standard, not an upsell.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything we touched doesn’t perform the way we said it would, we return and make it right, in writing, within the first year.

What PGT Energy-Efficient Windows Costs in Los Angeles

Here are the ranges we quote for common PGT energy-efficient window scenarios in the Los Angeles market. These are installed prices including labor, materials, and the documented photo record.

  • IGU replacement (fogged glass, failed seal) for one PGT WinGuard or SpectraGuard window: $450-$750 per unit, depending on size and whether it’s laminated impact glass.
  • Weatherstripping and roller service on an older PGT 7700 single-hung: $95-$180 per window.
  • Full replacement with a new PGT EnergyVue dual-pane Low-E window: $850-$1,400 per window, installed, including the written quote from our measured survey.
  • PGT sliding glass door IGU replacement (WinGuard or ClassicVue): $700-$1,900 depending on glass type and door size.

The two things that move the price most are glass type (impact-rated laminated runs higher than standard annealed) and frame condition (a rotten or twisted frame means full replacement, not an IGU swap). Whatever the number is, you’ll see it in writing before a tool leaves the truck. Call (509) 265-6387 to schedule your measured survey.

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Sightline Windows & Doors for PGT Work

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Sightline Windows & Doors for PGT Work

We’re independently owned and operated under the Haven Standard, and every job since 2012 has started with a written price and ended with a documented photo record. That’s 18,000+ installed openings, all with the same paper trail. We run PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, and ECO Window Systems across our eight product lines, specified by what the opening actually requires. If a PGT IGU is backordered and a CGI or CWS unit matches the spec, we tell you that in the quote instead of stretching a lead time silently. Sonia Raman, our owner, studied building construction technology at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent two decades measuring and setting windows across Los Angeles County, which is why our survey numbers and our final invoice are the same document.
