ES Windows Window Replacement: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you own ES Windows and a sash, balance, or sealed glass unit has failed, replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $290-$680 per window installed, depending on the series and what actually broke. We stock the most common ES Windows replacement parts on our trucks, and most swaps are done in one visit once we’ve measured the opening. Owners usually discover the failure the same way: a window that won’t stay up, condensation between the panes that won’t wipe off, or a frame that suddenly binds when you try to close it.
Sonia Raman has been reading ES Windows rough openings since before impact-rated aluminum became the default on Los Angeles hillsides, and she’ll tell you the same thing she told us: ES Windows are built well enough that when one fails, the part is almost always identifiable and replaceable. You don’t need a new window. You need the right part, matched to your series, priced before anyone lifts a tool.
We’re an independent installer and service provider. We’re not affiliated with ES Windows, but we work with their product lines daily, and we keep OEM and quality aftermarket parts on hand for the failures we see most in this market.
Which ES Windows Models This Applies To
ES Windows has produced several series over the years, and the replacement part that fits one series rarely fits another. The most common lines in Los Angeles homes are the ES 7000, ES 8000, and ES 9000 series, along with the builder-grade ES 2500 in some mid-2010s condos and townhomes. Each series has its own balance system, its own glazing bead profile, and its own hardware spacing. If you pull a sash out of an ES 8000 and try to drop it into an ES 7000 frame, it will not seat. We’ve measured enough of these to know that the difference is sometimes under an eighth of an inch, and that eighth of an inch is everything.
To identify what you have, look for the ES Windows logo etched in the lower corner of the glass, then check the spacer bar inside the insulated glass unit. Most ES Windows built after 2012 have a laser-etched date code on the spacer. Older units may only have a paper label inside the frame channel. If you have the original paperwork from your builder or your window invoice, the series number is on it. If you don’t, we can pull the sash and read the frame profile during our survey.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for balances, clips, and rollers, a quality aftermarket equivalent often matches or exceeds the original, and it costs 30-40% less. For insulated glass units, we recommend OEM or exact-spec replacements, because the U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient of the replacement glass have to match what the frame was built around. A mismatched IG unit changes how the window performs on a west-facing Los Angeles wall, and you’ll feel it in August.
Signs Your ES Windows Window Replacement Is Failing

- Condensation or fog between the panes. The desiccant inside the spacer bar has been exhausted and the seal has failed. The gas fill (argon in most ES Windows lines) has leaked out, and what you’re seeing is trapped moisture inside a dead air space. This never clears up on its own.
- A sash that drops or won’t stay raised. The constant-force balance or block-and-tackle balance inside the frame has snapped or lost tension. ES Windows uses both systems depending on series and sash weight, and the wrong replacement balance will either slam the sash down or make it feel spongy.
- Rollers that grind or skip when you slide the window. ES Windows uses a nylon roller on aluminum track system in most sliding and hung lines. After 8-12 years in Los Angeles, the nylon deforms from sun load and the bearing inside seizes. The window still works, but the track is being scored, and the replacement cost goes up if you wait.
- Visible frame bowing or a gap at the corner welds. Aluminum frames expand in Los Angeles sun, and when the thermal break inside an ES Windows frame weakens, the corner can open slightly. You’ll see light or feel air moving at the meeting rail. This is a frame replacement, not a hardware swap.
- Locking hardware that misaligns or won’t throw. When the sash sags even a few millimeters, the keep and the latch stop lining up. Before you force the lock, check whether the sash is still square in the frame. Forcing a misaligned lock is how we see bent handles and stripped fasteners.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, ES Windows window replacement breaks down like this, installed:
- Balance or spring replacement: $95-$210 per sash, including the part and labor.
- Roller set replacement: $140-$260 per window, including new rollers and track cleaning.
- Sealed insulated glass unit replacement: $290-$560 per window, depending on glass size, low-E spec, and whether it’s impact-rated.
- Full sash replacement (when hardware and glass are both beyond saving): $480-$680 per sash, matched to your ES Windows series.
- Full frame replacement: $950-$1,600 per opening, installed and finished.
Every one of these prices is written before work starts. That’s Haven Clause 1: the measured survey and the quote are the same document. You keep the survey. If the scope changes on site, we stop and put the new number in writing before we touch anything. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise under the Haven Standard, and every job leaves with a documented photo record of what was opened, what was replaced, and how it was closed up. No surprises, in other words, means no surprises.
DIY or Call Us?

There are things worth checking yourself. If the window is dirty, if debris is sitting in the track, if a screw has loosened on the face of the sash, you can address those safely. Replacing a balance cartridge or tension spring on an ES Windows sash is a different matter. Those balances hold tension, and a released balance under load can take off a knuckle or split a hand open. We’ve seen enough DIY attempts arrive at our shop with damaged frames and injured hands to say plainly: if the part is under tension, call us. If the glass unit has failed, call us. Glazing a new IG unit into an aluminum frame requires removing the glazing bead, setting the unit at the correct reveal, and resealing it so the new unit doesn’t fail in two years. That’s not a weekend project.
If you’re not sure whether you need a replacement or a repair, call (509) 265-6387. We’ll tell you what we think it is over the phone, and if you want us to put it in writing, the measured survey is free.
FAQs
Most ES Windows mechanical parts (balances, rollers, locks) last 8-12 years in Los Angeles before they need replacement, based on what we see in the field. The insulated glass units typically last 15-20 years before seal failure, though west-facing and south-facing windows with heavy sun exposure can fail sooner. Homes in coastal Los Angeles with salt air often see hardware wear on the earlier end of that range. Call (509) 265-6387 if you want us to assess yours in person.
If the frame is square and the glass is intact, almost everything else on an ES Windows window is repairable: balances, rollers, locks, weatherstripping, and even the glazing bead. Only when the frame itself is damaged, the glass seal has failed, or the sash has warped beyond adjustment does a full replacement become the right call. We’ll tell you which one applies to your window and put the price in writing either way. Call (509) 265-6387 for an assessment.
A single balance, roller, or hardware swap on an ES Windows window typically takes 45-90 minutes on site, once we’re at your home. An insulated glass unit replacement usually takes 1-2 hours for the first visit to measure and remove the old unit, then a return visit to install the new one. Full frame replacements are a day’s work per opening, start to finish. Call (509) 265-6387 to schedule a measured survey and get a written timeline.
We stock the ES Windows parts we replace most often in Los Angeles: balance cartridges for the 7000 and 8000 series, roller sets for ES sliders, locking hardware, and glazing bead in common finishes. For less common series or custom-sized insulated glass, we order directly and have it in hand within 5-10 business days. Call (509) 265-6387 and we’ll check our truck stock while you’re on the phone.
