ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ViewLux-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Los Angeles, with typical installed prices running $95 to $875 depending on whether you need a roller assembly, handle set, or full track replacement. Most ViewLux part replacements are done in a single visit, and we carry the most common failure items on the truck. What usually brings an owner to this page is a door that stopped gliding or a handle that finally stripped after years of daily use, and by the time they call, they’ve already fought the door for too long.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with ViewLux, and we work with the original equipment because ViewLux doors have specific extrusion profiles that generic hardware doesn’t always fit correctly. Sonia Raman, who owns Sightline Windows & Doors, learned early that a slider is only as good as the tolerance on its roller, which is why we measure the wheel diameter and the housing depth before quoting a part, not after.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To
ViewLux sliding doors sold in Southern California fall primarily into two series: the standard aluminum-framed sliders common in mid-century Los Angeles homes and the newer vinyl-framed units installed in condos and townhouses after 2010. Parts are not interchangeable between these two families. A vinyl ViewLux roller assembly will not seat correctly in an older aluminum track, and forcing it destroys the track edge, which turns a $40 part into a $400 frame repair.
Here’s how to identify what you have before you buy anything: remove the sliding panel from the track, look at the bottom edge of the panel for a white or silver sticker with a series identifier, and measure the thickness of the frame extrusion with a caliper. Aluminum ViewLux frames measure approximately 1.75 inches thick at the interlock; vinyl frames run closer to 2.25 inches. The roller housings differ by 3/16 inch between series, which is enough to make the wrong part jam on installation. We specify OEM ViewLux parts when the door is under warranty or when the frame is within tolerance; for older doors with worn extrusions, we’ll quote a quality aftermarket roller with a stainless steel ball-bearing wheel that often outlasts the original nylon wheel by several years in Los Angeles heat.
Signs Your ViewLux Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing

- The door drags or requires two hands to move. The roller wheels have flattened or the bearings have seized. This is the most common failure in Los Angeles because fine dust from dry air and coastal salt precipitates work into the roller housing and grind the bearings down. The fix is a roller swap, not track lubrication.
- The door lifts or drops at the latch side. The adjustment screw on the roller assembly is stripped or the roller housing has cracked. Owners often blame the frame, but the frame is rarely the problem. Replacing both rollers and realigning the panel corrects the drop in most cases.
- The handle turns but the latch won’t retract. The internal gear linkage inside the ViewLux handle has worn flat. This part is not repairable. The replacement handle set runs $65 to $145 installed, and ViewLux handle mortise dimensions differ from generic replacements, so this is one part we strongly recommend buying to spec.
- There’s a scraping sound when the panel moves. The track has worn a groove or collected embedded grit. A groove deeper than 1/32 inch will chew through new rollers within a year. In some Los Angeles homes near the coast, we see track corrosion that requires a full track replacement rather than a simple clean and reinstall.
- Water or visible daylight at the interlock. The weatherstripping has compressed or the panel has drifted out of square. This is the one symptom that can indicate either a simple weatherstrip replacement or a more involved frame adjustment, so we always measure the reveal at the top and bottom of the interlock before quoting.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what ViewLux sliding and patio door parts cost installed in Los Angeles as of this writing:
- Roller assembly (pair): $95 to $220 installed, depending on series and wheel grade
- Handle and latch set: $65 to $145 installed
- Weatherstripping and seals: $40 to $95 installed
- Track replacement: $350 to $875 installed, including panel removal and reinstallation
The range is driven by three things: whether your door is the aluminum or vinyl series, whether the track shows wear that dictates a higher-grade roller, and whether your building is in a zone where access requires additional care, such as a hillside street with limited parking. Every quote includes the part, the labor to remove and reset the sliding panel, and a written scope that lists exactly what we’re replacing. The price on the written estimate is the price on the invoice. Sightline’s 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if the part or the installation isn’t right, we return and make it right at no charge. You also get a documented photo record of the old part, the new part, and the completed install, which matters if you ever sell the home and want to show the door was properly maintained.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling: inspect the track for visible grit, note whether the rollers have flattened by looking for a flat spot on the wheel when you lift the panel out, and test the handle with the door open to see whether the latch mechanism still moves freely. Those observations help us quote accurately over the phone.
What we don’t recommend is replacing rollers or tracks yourself. A sliding glass panel in Los Angeles weighs 60 to 180 pounds depending on size and glass type, and the panel has to come out of the track to swap rollers. One dropped panel means shattered tempered glass and an $800 to $1,500 replacement, not counting the risk to your hands. The lift-out procedure on a ViewLux requires two people, and the adjustment screw on the roller housing is under panel weight when seated. If the door is currently off its rollers or binding, stop using it and call us at (509) 265-6387. We’ll give you a written price before any work begins, and the estimate is free.
FAQs
Roller assemblies typically last 7 to 12 years in Los Angeles depending on exposure to dust and coastal air; handles last longer, often 10 to 15 years, while weatherstripping degrades faster in direct sun, sometimes within 5 years on west-facing walls. The climate here is dry, which means less swelling and warping, but more abrasive dust grinding into moving parts.
No. The roller wheel and bearing are sealed units, and once the wheel flattens or the bearing seizes, the assembly has to be replaced. Attempting to lubricate a seized roller only pushes grit deeper into the housing. The part and the labor are both straightforward, and we can usually complete a roller swap in under an hour.
Most roller, handle, and weatherstripping replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site. Track replacements take longer, usually two to three hours, because the panel has to be removed, the old track unscrewed and pried clean, the new track bed leveled and sealed, and the panel reset and adjusted for square.
We keep the most common ViewLux roller assemblies, handle sets, and weatherstripping on the truck for both the aluminum and vinyl series, and we stock compatible track material for standard door widths. For unusual sizes or a specific anodized finish, we source the part within one to three days. Call (509) 265-6387 and describe what you’re seeing; we’ll tell you whether it’s a stock item before we schedule the visit.
