CGI Door Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
CGI door installation in Los Angeles typically runs $1,400 to $3,800 installed, depending on the door model, series, and whether the frame, track, or panel is being replaced. We stock CGI-compatible hardware and replacement parts on our trucks for most Los Angeles service calls, and we can usually complete a swap in one visit once we’ve matched your model. Most owners find us the day their door stops sliding square, or when a crack starts spiderwebbing from the corner of a panel, or when the lock no longer throws cleanly into the strike.
If your door groans against its track or sits an eighth-inch out of plumb, the fix usually starts with measuring the rough opening and comparing it against the original CGI spec. We do that with a measured survey you keep, because Haven Clause 1 says the written price and the measurement are the same document.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s residential line in the Los Angeles market runs across three series that show up most in our service calls: the Estate Collection, the Classic Collection, and the newer impact-rated Sentry line. Each uses different hinge geometry, track profiles, and panel thicknesses, and the parts are not interchangeable across series. A hinge barrel from the Classic Collection will not seat correctly in an Estate panel, even if the screw pattern looks close.
The fastest way to identify your door is to read the sticker on the hinge edge of the panel. It lists the series, the panel size, and the manufacturing batch. If the sticker is gone or painted over, measure the panel thickness: Estate runs 1-3/4 inches, Classic runs 2 inches, Sentry runs 2-1/4 inches with a continuous thermal break. We stock OEM CGI parts for all three series and a limited number of quality aftermarket equivalents for common wear items like rollers and bottom sweeps. For structural components – hinges, stiles, mullions – we specify OEM, because the replacement has to carry the same wind-load rating as the original door. Los Angeles coastal exposure zones require impact-rated components that match the original certification, and a generic hinge does not do that.
Sightline Windows & Doors is an independent installer and service provider. We are not affiliated with CGI, but we install and service their product line daily, alongside PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors where a homeowner has mixed brands on the same elevation.
Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing

- Door drags or scrapes at the strike side. This almost always means the top hinge has pulled or the jamb has shifted. In Los Angeles, dry summers and wet winters cycle the framing lumber enough that a door installed tight in July can bind by February. The fix is re-shimming the jamb and re-hanging the slab, not sanding the edge of the door.
- Lock bolt won’t throw without lifting the handle. The hinge geometry has sagged. Lifting the handle is masking the misalignment, and every time you force the bolt you’re wearing the strike and the bolt tip. This can usually be corrected by re-setting the hinges with a measured shim stack.
- Peeling finish or chalky residue at the bottom rail. That’s UV and standing water breaking down the factory finish, common on south-facing and west-facing elevations in Los Angeles. The rail absorbs moisture, the finish fails, and the panel eventually swells. If caught before the wood or composite core is swollen, a re-finish and re-glaze buys years.
- Condensation or haze between the glass panes. The insulated glazing unit’s seal has failed. CGI’s Sentry line uses a dual-seal system, but seal life in Los Angeles heat is shorter than the marketing literature suggests. The fix is a new IGU, not the whole door, unless the frame itself has rotted.
- Visible rust on the track or hinge pins. You’re near the coast. Salt air corrodes plated hardware fast, and CGI’s standard hinge finish is not marine-grade. We replace with stainless or brass-bushed hardware when we see this within five miles of the ocean.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here are the installed price ranges we quote for CGI door work in Los Angeles. They include the part, labor, disposal of the old component, and the photo record we take on every visit.
| Scope | Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Full CGI door replacement (single panel, standard size) | $1,400 - $2,800 |
| Impact-rated CGI Sentry replacement | $2,200 - $3,800 |
| Insulated glass unit replacement | $450 - $900 |
| Hardware package (hinges, track, lock, strike) | $550 - $1,000 |
| Bottom sweep and weatherstrip | $90 - $160 |
The range is driven by your panel size, series, and condition of the rough opening. If the jamb is rotted, the price goes up because the door has to be fully pulled and the opening reframed. We write the price before any work starts, and the written quote cannot differ from the measured survey. That’s Haven Clause 1, and it’s been how we work since 2012, across more than 18,000 installed openings.
Every completed job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s written into the Haven Standard, not offered as a courtesy.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check three things: the sticker on the hinge edge for your series and panel size, whether the screws in the top hinge are loose, and whether the bottom sweep is still making contact. Those findings help us quote accurately over the phone.
What you should not do is pull the door off its hinges to inspect the jamb. A CGI panel weighs between 180 and 260 pounds depending on size and glass, and once it’s off the opening, you need a second person and a proper door jack to get it re-set without stressing the hinges. That’s how we see homeowners turn a $500 hardware replacement into a full panel replacement. If the door is binding, sagging, or the lock won’t throw, call us at (509) 265-6387 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight read on what it likely is and what it will cost before we ever schedule the truck.
FAQs
In Los Angeles, a properly installed CGI door lasts 20 to 30 years, with hardware replacement typically needed at the 10 to 15 year mark, and insulated glass units often failing around 12 to 18 years in exposed west-facing installations. Coastal zones within five miles of the ocean see shorter hardware life due to salt air. Call (509) 265-6387 and we can tell you from the symptoms whether repair or replacement is the better value.
Yes, in most cases: a sagging door is usually a hinge re-setting, a hazy glass panel is an IGU replacement, and a dragging door is often a track adjustment. We only recommend full replacement when the frame is rotted, the panel core is swollen, or the original install was so far out of square that re-hanging won’t hold. Call (509) 265-6387 and we’ll give you an honest assessment over the phone before you spend anything.
A typical hardware replacement or IGU swap is completed in one visit, usually two to four hours on site. A full door replacement runs four to six hours including the jamb work and finishing. We schedule a time, the technician arrives in uniform with their license number on record, and we leave a documented photo record of every step. Call (509) 265-6387 to get a written price and a date.
We stock common CGI wear parts on our trucks – rollers, hinges, sweeps, strikes, and standard-sized insulated glass units – and we keep a standing order with the CGI distribution network for full panels and Sentry series components. Most repair work is done first visit; a full panel replacement usually takes three to seven business days from measurement to install. Call (509) 265-6387 and we’ll check stock against your series and panel size while you’re on the phone.
