Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose CGI Windows & Doors
We provide independent CGI windows and doors repair, service, and full-frame replacement across Los Angeles, from the coastal flats of Venice and Playa del Rey up through the canyon corridors and the San Fernando Valley. Our CGI work is built on field experience with the Estate Collection, Targa Series, Classic vinyl, and Panorama lines: we know how each series fails, which parts it needs, and when repair stops making sense. That’s the difference between a technician who has read a CGI brochure and one who has rebuilt the hardware inside a thirty-year-old Estate single hung in a Santa Monica bungalow. We are not affiliated with or authorized by CGI, and we say so plainly. Call (509) 265-6387 for a written estimate on CGI repair in Los Angeles.
Why Trust Sightline Windows & Doors for Your CGI Windows & Doors?
Sightline Windows & Doors has installed and serviced more than 18,000 openings since 2012 under the Haven Standard, which means the measurement and the written quote are the same document. Our technicians work on CGI products regularly, not occasionally, and that repetition matters. CGI’s aluminum lines, especially the Estate Collection and Targa Series, use specific spiral balance configurations and tandem roller assemblies that a generalist will often misdiagnose as full frame failure. We don’t. We read the frame, check the sill slope, measure the sash drop, and name the repair before anyone touches the glass.
Sonia Raman, our owner, grew up in Silver Lake watching her grandfather caulk and reglaze the Craftsman bungalows along the hillside streets, then spent two decades measuring and setting windows across Los Angeles County after studying building construction technology at LATTC. That background shows up in how we approach CGI work: we treat the rough opening as the source of truth, not the old window sitting in it. Every technician who arrives at a Los Angeles home is background-checked, uniformed, and identified by license number before they set foot inside, per Haven Clause 3. Every visit ends with a documented photo record, per Haven Clause 4.
As an independent CGI service provider, we answer only to the homeowner. That means we can recommend repair when repair is the right call, and we can source parts without being pushed toward a factory replacement path. It also means our written estimate names the price before work starts, always, per Haven Clause 1. That’s the whole point.
Common CGI Windows & Doors Problems We Fix in Los Angeles

Every window line has a signature. CGI’s product families have been installed across Los Angeles long enough that we can map their failure modes by neighborhood and era. Here’s what we see most often and what actually causes it:
- Estate Collection single hungs: sash drift and sudden drop. The Estate line uses metal spiral balances mounted inside the jamb. After years of thermal cycling and coastal moisture, the balance tubes lose tension and the sash starts creeping down or dropping when released. We replace both balances on the affected sash, always in pairs, because a mismatched pair will tilt the sash and wear the pivot bar. This is a repair, not a replacement problem.
- Targa Series 3-lite sliders: track binding and flattened rollers. The Targa horizontal roller, especially the 3-lite configuration, carries a lot of glass on two sets of tandem rollers. In Los Angeles neighborhoods within reach of the marine layer, airborne salt settles in the track and grinds the roller bearings until the wheels flatten on one side. The window binds, the operator gets rougher to turn, and people assume the frame is warped. It usually isn’t. We rebuild the trucks with new stainless tandem rollers, clean the track, and set the reveal. Our crew recently did exactly this on a pair of Targa sliders in a Santa Monica home where the originals had gone flat from years of coastal grit; on the same job we replaced the spiral balances in a 1990s Estate single hung that dropped without warning.
- Aluminum sill corner corrosion near the coast. Aluminum and salt air are a known combination. On older Estate and Targa frames in Venice, Playa del Rey, and Mar Vista, we regularly find pitting and white oxidation at the sill corners where water pools after morning marine layer condensation. If the corrosion is surface-level, we clean, treat, and reseal. If it has eaten through the sill wall, the frame is compromised and we discuss full-frame replacement.
- Panorama fixed and architectural units: fogging between panes. The Panorama line includes large fixed units and shaped glass that seal the view and nothing else. When the insulated glass unit’s edge seal fails, moisture gets between the panes and you get permanent haze you can’t clean. The fix is an IGU swap into the existing frame if the frame is sound, not a new window. We measure the exact sightline and order the replacement glazing to match.
- Classic vinyl single and double hungs: weatherstripping compression and air infiltration. Vinyl frames expand and contract through LA’s hot-day, cool-night cycles, especially inland where Santa Ana winds push UV and heat against the frame. The original weatherstripping compresses, and the window develops a draft at the meeting rail. We replace the weatherstripping with a matched-profile material and re-set the sash to close cleanly. It’s a smaller repair that restores most of the window’s original performance.
Before
AfterCGI Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
For active CGI product lines, we source genuine OEM spiral balances, tandem rollers, and weatherstripping when lead times allow. For discontinued series, we substitute equivalent-quality aftermarket hardware with matching profiles and dimensions, and we tell you which path we’re taking and why before ordering anything. You get the part number on the written scope. That’s Haven Clause 1 applied to hardware.
We lean toward repair when the frame is square, the glass is intact, and the failure is in the hardware or the seal. We recommend full-frame replacement when the aluminum frame shows structural corrosion, or when you want to upgrade from a non-impact CGI line to an impact-rated system that meets current code. The decision gets made on the evidence of the frame reading, not on what’s easier to sell. If you have a CGI window that’s failing and you’re not sure which category it falls into, call (509) 265-6387. We’ll put the diagnosis in writing.
Our CGI Service Process - Step by Step

- 1
Measured survey and written diagnosis. We arrive, measure the rough opening, check the frame for square, read the balance tension, and inspect the glazing and weatherstripping. You keep the measured survey. The written scope cannot differ from that document.
- 2
Parts sourcing and written quote. We identify the CGI series, determine whether OEM or equivalent aftermarket parts are appropriate, and give you a written price before any work starts. No verbal estimates, no allowances.
- 3
Repair or full-frame replacement. For repair, we remove the affected hardware, install new balances or rollers, re-set the sash, and adjust the reveal until the window operates by hand, not by force. For replacement, the new CGI unit goes into the existing opening with the same care a new construction window gets.
- 4
Test and document. We cycle the window through its full range, check the seal, and photograph the finished work. You receive a documented photo record. Every job is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, written into the Haven Standard.
Measure once, write it down, then measure again. That’s how Sonia runs a CGI service call, and it’s how the estimate you approve is the invoice you pay.
CGI Products We Service & Install in Los Angeles
We service and install across CGI’s primary residential lines: the Estate Collection aluminum single hung and casement, the Targa Series impact-rated horizontal roller and picture windows, Classic vinyl single and double hungs, and Panorama fixed and architectural shapes. Our Los Angeles work includes horizontal roller and sliding impact window service, full-frame replacement from non-impact to impact-rated systems, and energy-efficiency upgrades for older CGI frames where the glass has failed but the frame is still performing. We also provide Anaheim CGI service throughout Orange County. We stock common CGI balance cartridges, tandem roller assemblies, and weatherstripping profiles locally to keep repair lead times short.
We Also Service These Brands

CGI is one of eight manufacturer lines we specify by performance tier and price range, not by margin. Alongside CGI, our Los Angeles crews service and install PGT, CWS, ES Windows, ECO Window Systems, Mr-Glass, Therma-Tru, and ViewLux. If your home has a mix of brands across different openings, one service call covers it.
FAQs - CGI Windows & Doors Service in Los Angeles
No. We are an independent CGI service provider and we state that clearly on every page and in every quote. We are not a factory-authorized repair center, and we don’t pretend to be one. What we are is a Los Angeles window and door contractor with deep field experience servicing CGI’s residential lines across coastal and inland climate zones, with the freedom to recommend repair or replacement based only on what the frame and glass show us.
For active CGI lines, we source genuine OEM balances, rollers, and weatherstripping when lead times allow. For discontinued series where OEM parts are no longer manufactured, we source equivalent-quality aftermarket hardware with matching profiles, and we note the substitution on your written scope before ordering. You’ll know which parts are going into your window and why. Call (509) 265-6387 if you want a specific answer for your CGI series.
Most hardware repairs on CGI windows, including spiral balance replacement and tandem roller rebuilds, are completed in a single visit once parts are in hand. Larger full-frame replacements and impact-rated upgrades run longer depending on the number of openings and whether the project falls under LA’s Historic Preservation Overlay Zone review. Since Los Angeles WUI designations and Title 24 requirements can add permit time for replacement windows, we build that into the written timeline before work starts. We also handle CGI service in Long Beach and surrounding areas. Call (509) 265-6387 for a realistic schedule on your specific project.
We service and install the Estate Collection aluminum single hung and casement, Targa Series impact-rated horizontal roller and picture windows, Classic vinyl single and double hungs, and Panorama fixed and architectural shapes. That covers the bulk of CGI product installed in Los Angeles homes from the 1990s through current builds, including the coastal corrosion issues on aluminum sills and the track-binding roller failures on Targa 3-lite sliders. We also offer CGI repair in Santa Ana for homeowners in central Orange County.
It depends on the age of the product and whether the warranty has transferred to you as the current owner. CGI’s product warranties are tied to the original purchaser in most cases, and many Los Angeles homeowners are not the original buyer. If your product is still under an active transferred warranty, we’ll advise you on whether a factory claim is the better path before we do any work. Our repair work does not void a warranty that has already lapsed, and we document everything we touch in the photo record.
CGI repair and service pricing in Los Angeles breaks down by the failure type and series. Here are the ranges we see on typical service calls:
- Spiral balance replacement on an Estate Collection single hung: $180 to $340 per window, including both balances on the affected sash
- Tandem roller rebuild on a Targa 3-lite slider: $220 to $420 per panel depending on the roller assembly condition
- Weatherstripping replacement on a Classic vinyl double hung: $120 to $260 per window
- Insulated glass unit replacement on a Panorama fixed window: $400 to $900 per unit depending on glass size and Low-E specification
- Full-frame replacement from a non-impact CGI line to an impact-rated system: $1,800 to $3,600 per opening in Los Angeles, depending on size, series, and permit requirements
Those ranges hold for most Los Angeles homes outside of HPOZ review or WUI-specific glazing requirements, which add scope. Every quote we issue is written and fixed before work starts. Call (509) 265-6387 to schedule a measured survey and get your exact number.
Yes, if the frame is square and the glazing bead is intact. We remove the failed insulated glass unit, measure the exact sightline and glass thickness of the existing IGU, and order a replacement unit with the same Low-E and argon fill specification. The new IGU goes back into your existing Panorama frame. You keep the frame, the trim, and the original sightline. Call (509) 265-6387 and we’ll confirm whether your specific unit qualifies for glass-only replacement.
Because the problem is rarely dirt in the track. It’s usually the tandem roller assemblies underneath the sliding panel. The rollers flatten on the bottom over time, and in Los Angeles near the coast, salt accelerates that wear. Once the wheels are flat, the panel drags on the track even when everything is clean. We remove the panel, rebuild the roller trucks with new stainless tandems, clean and lubricate the track, and re-set the panel height. The window glides properly after that. Call (509) 265-6387 for a written estimate on Targa roller service.
It depends on where the pitting sits and how deep it goes. Surface pitting on the frame face is cosmetic and can be cleaned, treated, and resealed. Pitting at the sill corners or along the bottom rail is structural, because that’s where water sits and where the frame carries the weight of the glass. If the corrosion has eaten into the sill wall or the frame corners are loose, repair is not honest and we’ll recommend full-frame replacement. We’ll show you the readings that led to the recommendation. Call (509) 265-6387 to have it evaluated in writing.
Yes. We keep common spiral balance cartridges in stock for the Estate Collection and older CGI single hung lines, and we replace them in matched pairs on any affected sash. If your balance is a non-standard length or tension, we measure it in the field and order the correct replacement. The written scope includes the balance spec. Call (509) 265-6387 and tell us the window size and symptom.
In many cases, yes. The exterior opening matters more than the interior trim profile. If your existing CGI frames are set in standard openings and the interior casing is in good condition, we can remove the old frame from the exterior, install the new impact-rated unit, and leave your interior trim undisturbed. On some older Los Angeles homes, especially in Spanish Colonial Revival or Craftsman stock, the original trim is part of the home’s character and we treat it accordingly. We’ll confirm trim compatibility during the measured survey. Call (509) 265-6387 to schedule one.
